Punjabi Language & Literature

Punjabi Language was at its peak int eh time of Baba Sheikh Farid. The beauty of Baba Farid's poetry is that it seems as if is written in the modern times. Sikh Gurus specially made a great contribution in the development in Punjabi Language and literature. We may see many a celestial facets and spiritual colours of Punjabi language in Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji's “Chandi Di Vaar”, and Shabad “Mittar Pyare Nu” has written in a chaste Punjabi. Sayed Waris Shah, Baba Bulle Shah, Shah Hussain, Ahmed yaar, Peelu, Haasham Shah, Shah Mohammad, Nand Lal Noorpuri, Pooran Singh gave astounding dimensions to Punjabi Language and literature. Gurbax Singh Preetlari, Balraj Sahni are great prose writers of Punjabi. Jaswa Kanwal has made a great contribution in field of Novel writing. Though Nanak Singh is the father of Punjabi Novel today Punjabi language is facing many challenges as it is an age of internet and globalisation. Most of the punjabi is do not like speaking punjabi and they prefer english schools for importing education to their children. Whereas in Canada and England Punjabi language has achieved a respectable place in the white dominated societies, world Punjabi conferences and national and international Punjabi seminars have indeed generated an awareness regarding Punjabi Language.But Still more work is to be done in this direction.
