Folk Traditions oF Punjab

Punjab Has rich culture and great cultural traditions. There is no such a phase of Punjabi life that is not ornamented with folk songs and folk-events. From the birth of child till the death every phase has its particular folk songs and traditions. The most beautiful and attractive folk songs are those which are related with the marriage “Ghorian”, “Suhag”, “Chhand”, “Sithhinian”, “Hairey” “Bolian”, “Gidhha”, “Bhanra”, “Sammi” are very common folk songs and folk dances of Punjab. Though in the modern time such songs and dances can be watched only in the countryside of Punjab in the urban area people rejoice on the recorded music of the popular Singers. Punjabi University has done a commendable job, with publishing many of books of rear Punjabi folk Songs, and folk songs of different clans of punjab. Punjab is famous for its folk dances i.e Giddha, Bhangra, Malwai Gidhaa, Dhol-Sammi etc. On every festive occasion Bhangra and Giddha become an integral parts on Basant Panchami, Basanti Gidhha is observed. Bhangra Compitions have become an integral part of Youth Festivals of School, Colleges and Universities. Even in Canada, US and Britain Bhangra has become popular.
