Culture and Traditions of Punjab

Punjab gone through different rulers in the different phases of time and during all these changes different culture and traditions developed in region of Punjab. Before any foreign invader the people of Punjab is following the Vedic believes and their culture and traditions was as per the Vedic faith requirement.after the Vedic period Buddhism and Jainism also flourished in India that also influenced culture of Punjab. For a considerable period of time Punjabis followed Vedic traditions in the day to day life. Part of the population of Punjab also adhered buddhist religious faith and also followed their social traditions. The smaller section of people followed the faith of Jainism and although performing their rituals as per the Jain religion. The architecture took a new turn in the Mughal era. With the advent of sikhism culture of Punjab changed dramatically. For example The second Sikh Guru “Guru Amar Das” Abolish the tradition of “SATI” and also allowed the widows to re-marry. Which was against the centuries old traditions of Hinduism. The first Sikh Guru “Guru Nanak Dev Ji” establish the social fabric of Punjab in which first time ladies treated equal to men and also played a great role in shunning cast, creed based society. He also condemned the religious superstition of the time. The Punjabis lifestyle based on a very healthy diet and also to lear all the techniques to fight the enemy because the Punjab was the first province to face the many foreign invaders. It has rich folk-dances / songs and colorfull dresses to be worn on different function in day to day life. Basically to stay happy and healthy.
